A really nice example of what was the rarest version of an already rare bike. From back when wheels were still small and handlebars were still narrow. OCLV carbon frame with an aluminum and carbon swingarm (with a unique “lugged and plugged” construction). Paint is a beautiful red metal flake. Comes alive in sunlight. This 3x9 bike has all the top level parts from its day: SRAM XO shifters and rear derailleur, Shimano XTR crank/bottom bracket and front derailleur, Bontrager Race Lite wheels and carbon seatpost & ‘bars. The Fox shock and fork still work perfectly (as you’d expect; their stuff is great). The original Avid Ultimate brakes have been replaced by Shimano SLX units (they aren’t as sexy-looking as the Ultimates, but the SLXs are better in almost every other metric).
This bike never got used much, and spent the vast majority of its life hanging on the wall of my client’s garage. It’s a really cool bike, emblematic of an era, and in superb shape.
